Patty Smith: Biography
Patty Smith is an artist/printmaker and book artist who lives and works in Philadelphia, PA. Her work is represented by A.I.R. Gallery in Brooklyn, NY,
where she is a national member, by Vamp and Tramp Booksellers, LLC, Birmingham Alabama, and by the Ruth Baggett, Gallery, Paducah, KY.
Smith’s work is exhibited nationally and internationally, including in Brooklyn, NY, Philadelphia, PA, Paducah, KY, Seoul, Korea, Venice, Italy, Lorca, Spain,
Paris France and Tokyo, Japan. She is included in print and special collections at numerous institutions, such as, the Bibliotheca Alexandria (Egypt),
Brooklyn Museum of Art, Yale University, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the University of Pennsylvania. Since 2012 Smith has been collaborating
with artist/animator, Claire Fouquet of Paris, France. Together they have created prints and drawings that have become animations, Crowds and Barriers,
and Obstacle Illusion, and also an artist's book, Et si nous y allions de l'autre Cote. The videos have been included in exhibitions and installations,
in Philadelphia and Paris and as the visuals for music and dance performances. Smith spends several months of the year working in Paris at the
Atelier Bo Halbirk.Smith is an Associate Professor in the Interdisciplinary Fine Arts Department and MFA Book Arts/Printmaking Program at the
University of the Arts, Philadelphia. She earned a MA Ed from the Philadelphia College of Art, studied Japanese woodblock at the Yoshida Hanga
Academy, Tokyo, Japan, and earned a BA at Immaculata College. She was an artist-in-residence at Scuola Internazionale di Grafica, Venice, Italy.
